Hope it was worth the ride

Your pastor told you that influence was more important than integrity. Your prophets told you that this was God’s anointed one, destined to save America, God’s chosen nation. Your preferred media told you that the Democrats were evil, child-killing Communists. You sold your soul and jumped on the Trump Train.

You got those precious Justices you wanted, but you lost the Presidency after 4 years. You lost the House, and now you lost the Senate. Nothing to stop the legislative agenda you fear. Your country is fractured, more divided than at any point in your lifetime. A big chunk of it in thrall to fabricated conspiracy theories, and you can no longer tell fact from fiction. 350,000 people have died from a disease you think is no worse than the flu.

Now you and your thug friends are here in my city attempting a violent insurrection and vandalizing the Capitol. The institutions of the country you claim to love, once the greatest democracy in the world, have been sullied by the filth of your lust for power and your disregard for truth. Your blind rage at a “stolen election” is based upon nothing but the lies of con artists, their pockets lined with your money. The lies are easy to believe because you’ve been conditioned to fear and hate your political adversaries.

Your so-called Christian faith has been exposed as nationalist idolatry. Young people who are interested in Jesus want nothing to do with you. Your churches are nothing more than gatherings of like-minded ideologues yearning for the racist utopia of 70 years ago. You wouldn’t recognize Jesus if he showed up on your doorstep tonight.

On the bright side, your so-called Christian faith has been exposed as nationalist idolatry. Hope it was all worth it.
